Oh, Capstone!

After talking with Megan about my capstone project (which will be a sort of travelog/me/biography mishmash of sorts) she gave my an author/photographer to research on.

This was the only book of his that the Drake Library had, but on Friday I'm going to the library on Franklin to look for another one. This one is a strange mishmash (again...) of Peter Beards photography, the author of "Out of Africa" writing and photography, and mostly the writing of one of the Kenyans who knew her. It's very strange, and hard to read, so hopefully the one that that the Franklin library has will be, well, a little easier to look at.

Adventures in Awkwardness...

That would be a great paper title for my semester long project, eh? And could be amazing for my publication design class. Think of all the pictures. The content would be something like the following:

Girl goes to visit Guy friend who she enjoys immensely. Having planned events the night before, no calling was needed, right? WRONG!

Girl walks into to Guys apartment to find Guy, ex-Guy, and two other non-capitalized guys having serious talk. Nervous giggles ensue. Girl changes shoes, and says bye to all GUYS.

OR:

Girl gets lunch at campus location. Girl goes for a straw for her chocolate milk at the same time as unknown guy. Girl and unknown guy fumble over straws. Girl eventually gets a straw then awkwardly drops it into her milk. This straw still has the paper on it.

Rinse, repeat scenario in a variety of situations, maybe changing a few characters, locations, events...totally a piece worth writing.

Never would I have dreamed...

That part of my course work would involve writing in a "blog" at least three times a week. Yes, I've had to post on discussion board on occasion, but never in a design class, and never a legit blog.

That being said, for my Publication project, the first thing that popped into my head was integrating it with my English capstone (Authorizing Self/Life.) We have a semester long piece that we must create, and I know Megan was really excited last semester when I told her I was a Graphic Design major too, and wanted me to put stuff in work. I don't know if that would be enough/interesting, but it certainly is an idea to start with.
