Winter Songs

Des Moines recieved 14 or so inches of snow this week. That is crazy. I'll have to post some pictures of the disaster that had consumed my car. But along that vein of winter, I've started listening to some melancholy, winter songs.

I don't hate Christmas songs, but I really like "winter songs." Some of these are actually wintery, or some just sort of bring up wintery feelings or maybe I just heard them the first time in the winter.

Horse Feathers "Curs in the Weeds"
This was a free download recently. It just sounds winter-y.

Bon Iver "For Emma, Forever Ago"
This whole album is winter. Which makes sense, since Justin Vernon wrote it while hiding in a Wisconsin cabin. In the winter.

Breathe Owl Breath "Toboggan"
Hey, this one is actually winter related! And considering the other suggestions, moderately cheerful.

Jimmy Eat World "For Me This is Heaven"
Jimmy Eat World's "Clarity" album is easily the oldest on this list, and one of my favorites, ever. I have a lot of memories and emotions tied up with this album, and this song in particular. It's probably the least wintery, but I think I relate it to winter times because of the "first star I see may not be a star" lyric.

Sufjan Stevens "Sister Winter"
Okay, this one is from a Christmas album, but it is an original song. I just love the lyrics.
